Storm Brewing

A change in the jet stream will draw a storm that is currently in the southwest up the coast and create stormy conditions for the region sometime around Sunday into Monday.  There is potential for significant snowfall here, but there is still much uncertainty as to how much and in what form the precipitation will fall.

The good news here is the Atlantic Ocean.  It is also the bad news.  A lot of moisture can be picked up from the ocean and enhance the precipitation we get.  More rain, more snow or both.  One good thing is that the ocean water is still rather warm.  That warmth can be drawn into the storm as well and raise temperatures enough to keep things mostly liquid here.  That fine line makes me nervous though because sometimes snow still falls, but is wetter and heavier.  Add wind to that and there are potential problems.  In the latest map stolen from Channel 7 you can see the rain/heavy snow line runs almost through where FBF is located; maybe slightly west.  Any slight variation can change this dramatically.  It makes living here that much more interesting.

So, we wait and see and prepare.  I have a bit of maintenance work to do on our snow thrower but aside from that we'll be ready.  Plenty of food and if I am lucky we will get plenty of snow to finally use my snow shoes and perhaps even while on a day off.
