The much anticipated 3rd annual
Mashpee Firefighters Raw Bar 5k was today and all proceeds went to one of
Mashpee FD's own to support him and his two daughters while he undergoes treatment for cancer. He is literally in a fight for his life.

Mrs and I preregistered and I picked up our numbers and
goodie bags on Thursday at
New Balance Mashpee in
Mashpee Commons. This was one of those full circle moments for me.
Mashpee Firefighters 5k was my first official 5k last year.

The turnout this year was more than twice that of last year which was great.
We had perfect weather. Partly sunny, upper 60s with a wind out of the south.

View of a good portion of the crowd from the starting line.
I ran the route on Friday mainly because I had not been out running enough. After the run I drove around and took some shots of a few of the sights along the route.

Foot bridge over Dean's Pond.

Some seasonal decorations.

Rock Landing Road between mile 2 and the finish.

Finish line taken before the start. This is at the
Popponesset Marketplace. The Raw Bar is here as well as several other shops, most only open in the summer.

Steve, the beneficiary of today's event, with some of his supporters.

Lots of support from the guys at
MPD.
Mashpee Engine 355 and one of
MPD's motor units.
I didn't get many shots from the sidelines since Mrs was in the race. We had a great time. Speaking of time, I finished well and better than last year at 23:20. The run on Friday probably helped me get through. I did work until midnight Friday. Luckily the race started at 11:30 so I was able to sleep in a little bit. There is another report over at
Fooseberry's page. Full results can be found
here.

Oh, and here's a plug for our friends at
Our Outhouses. They are truly the best portable toilets on Cape Cod!

Congrats on your time Barry. It sure looked like a good turn out.
I will put your Mashpee Firefighter in my prayers. Surely with the support you all are giving him, he will beat his disease.
Nice recap, Barry. I like how local races usually benefit an individual in the community or directly support a cause within the community. It also keeps things in perspective when I am struggling a little bit during a race.
