Chickens and Gardens

The sun finally decided to make an appearance today, so we ended up working in the gardens. Mrs dead-headed some of the perennials and cleaned up some plants. I weeded and turned over a couple of the raised beds in preparation of adding more compost to the soil to refill the beds. We also moved the chickens into that garden so they could spend a couple hours scratching around and eating some tasty critters and greens. A good day for them to be out and about.

The chickens were 4 months old on 10/04 and are doing well. It's been great to have them out and roamng around the gardens.

Here is Minnie, one of our Araucanas. She's a big bird and quite nice. I've never had this breed before. Their eggs' shells are light blue. Cannot wait for fresh eggs!


We still have many plants in flower including roses, coneflower, sedum, aster, cosmos and hydrangea.

This is one of my favorite plants. It is some type of aster.
