Run & Sun

We were treated to lots of rain overnight, and a mostly clear, hot, and not as humid day today. I wanted to get some run time in the sun and heat, so I headed out to the bike path at around 10:00. Unfortunately, this meant I could not get to Hatchville Pottery for the kiln opening.

This marker is my starting point just off County road in North Falmouth. I imagine a lot of folks use this as a starting point. Lots of folks of all ages, shapes and sizes on the path this morning. Plenty of runners as well. Perhaps many of these people are also getting ready for the Falmouth Road Race next weekend. *gulp*

I would run from the house, but I grew bored with the route and the roads are a bit dangerous. I should say the drivers are a bit dangerous. Either way, I need to run somewhere other than from home. I'm not sure why, but I prefer it.

I won't know until I am standing in Woods Hole on Sunday if I am ready for this. I feel ready.

The blog title, in part, refers to the habitat type we live in as I understand it (well, the house is plopped in the middle of it anyway). We frequently experience colder air temperatures and have to be careful of early and late frosts that threaten tender plants in the garden. I've lived here for over 30 years (Holy $#@*!!!) and I will say that the last 10 to 12 seem warmer and the frost threat seems less and less. My Mom would always say that we were not safe from frost until after Memorial Day and were in danger of frost after Labor Day. I generally still go by that rule, but I'm not as worried about it.

We're a very small "farm". In fact, in March 2016 I am amending my earlier description because there isn't much farming going on anymore. We have one chicken. Our focus is mainly the grounds, the house, outbuildings and of course, being outdoors and on trips.

So, stay tuned. I expect to blog about some gardening, pets, geocaching, camping, hiking, running and travel, or whatever the day brings. As time goes on there will be several pages of 'older posts' accessible from a link at the bottom of the page.
