Smugglers' Notch - Post #1

Mrs and I headed north again to car camp at Smugglers' Notch State Park in Stowe, VT. We had never camped at this particular state park, so we had to guess which lean-to site might be a good one. After seeing the other sites in the park, we knew we chose wisely.

We stayed in the Hemlock lean-to site.

We had to delay the trip by a day due to rain from Cape Cod to Smuggler's Notch which was a bummer, but gave us extra time to prepare. We arrived on Monday, 9/14 in rain that was hanging on in the northern mountains, but as we set up the camp the rain cleared off.

Site mostly set up. Still raining.

We headed off to Waterbury to poke around and had some lunch at Arvads. I had been here a few years ago when I hiked/camped a short section of The Long Trail.

 Waterbury, VT firehouse.

Part of the main drag in Waterbury.

View from the outdoor dining area at Arvads. We had a nice lunch inside.

After lunch, we returned to Smugglers' Notch State Park and the ranger's station to purchase firewood for the evening. After unloading that experienced an amazing sky as the sun set. Pictures could not do it justice.

More to follow….
