We've Adopted!

Mrs and I kicked around the idea of another pointer puppy.  There was a litter with some puppies available, but after some thought we decided against it, though at one point we thought we would go ahead and get one, but by then they were all spoken for.

Mrs came across an adoption group on  the Internet called PAWS New England and liked one particular picture of a little black female with great ears.  She e-mailed the group about her and received a response that she, Dixie, was just adopted along with links to several other pups that we might like.  The next morning, Mrs received another e-mail stating that her adoption was not going to work out and Dixie was again available.

Mrs completed the adoption form and after the foster mom had called our vet for reference, we made plans for a home visit.  After the visit and a check with our personal references, we made plans to go pick her up in Rhode Island.

 Harry and his new sister.  We have changed her name to Luna.

She has been with us since mid-July and all has been going fairly well.  She has issues with being in the crate, but we're working on it.  She is really great off leash and does not go too far from us.

We were told she is a basenji/boarder collie mix, about 7 months old.  After some time with her we think the basenji is correct, but are leaning more towards cattle dog for the other half.  Maybe a little bit older.

The PAWS group was featured in the HBO documentary One Nation Under Dog, and in fact she was hand-picked by John Gagnon.  This film was available on youtube, but is no longer.  A little searching and you may be able to find it.  Worth a watch, but not good for young kids.
