Sunday Museum Visit & Falmouth Artists Guild

Mrs and I took advantage of a wonderful benefit our local libraries offer and checked out a pass for two to the Cahoon Museum of American Art.  Neither of us have been before.  Sad, but true.

The museum is located on Rt 28 in Cotuit, MA.  The building was constructed in 1775 and is one of several in the immediate area built by the Crocker Family.  It was owned by generations of the Crocker Family until the 1920s.  In 1945 it was purchased by Ralph and Martha Cahoon as a residence and studio for their artwork.

The Cahoons (Ralph in particular) are commonly associated with artwork that include mermaids, clipper ships and hot air balloons.

There is no picture taking allowed within the museum, so I only have this of the outside.

The current exhibition is THE BIRDS AND BEASTS WERE THERE and runs through March 13th.


We hope to continue these Sunday explorations.


After our visit we popped in at home for a pit stop, and then headed to Falmouth for a coffee at Coffee Obsession.  On the way to town we passed by the Falmouth Artists Guild and after coffee, decided to drop in to see what was going on there.  We were welcomed, almost with open arms, to come in and explore.  The volunteer/artist at the door was most hopeful and gave a lot of information about the current lobby exhibit PASSIONS IN PASTELS - Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod.  We are considering a membership to the Guild to support them and local artists.  Classes that Mrs might be interested in are offered there as well.
