Got It Wet

After a sizzling day on the Cape, Mrs and I launched for the first time our new (slightly used) canoe on a pond almost in our back yard called Coonamessett Pond. We launched from the earthen ramp at Matthew Souza Conservation Area. There was hardly a breeze which allowed the water to be flat calm.Coonamessett Pond is a large pond for Falmouth. It is 158 acres with an average depth of 19 feet, and maximum depth of 34 feet.

We first went to the left (see above image) which leads to a tight channel connecting Coonamessett with Pickerel Pond. Pickerel is a small pond covered in lily pads. I enjoy small ponds like these if for nothing else to see the damselflies and dragonflies, among other critters.

We headed back towards Coonamessett through the channel.

The channel is just wide and deep enough for the canoe and really the only concern is the masses of poison ivy that overhang in spots.

Fishermen on the pond. No motors larger than 6 hp allowed on the pond.

We had an enjoyable paddle on the pond and are quite happy with the canoe.
